    DIY American Flag Corn Hole

    06.15.2016 · diy · 0

Time to kick off those 4th of July posts. With 4th of July three weeks away, it’s time to start planning your BBQ’s and parties. This is just enough time to do a DIY American flag corn hole game.

I love DIY yourself projects. With my love for all things American (seeing that i’m a veteran and lover of my country) and country music I had to make an American flag corn hole set. Corn hole has been our game for all our parties, tailgating, and camping trips.

We constructed our boards using the instructions on the DIY Network here. It’s a regulation corn hole set so you don’t have to worry about that. 🙂 If you have another plan you want to follow, then that is fine too.

First you need someone to help you. You could do this alone but it’s nice to have some help. I elected my super strong and crafty boyfriend. He was such a help and did most of the “construction” part of the project. We had our 2’X4′ pieces cut at Home Depot without a problem.

Once you have your board constructed, you can start your design. This is one of our finished boards. We added a handle to our boards so they are easy to carry.

I knew I wanted an American Flag corn hole set that wasn’t just a plain flag. I wanted it to be different. I utilized pinterest to get ideas and I saw many chevron patterned corn hole sets. So I decided to incorporate the chevron in along with a triangle element.

For the stars I drew out my own stencil and cut it out using this stencil paper.

We used painter’s tape by Duck Brand. It’s important when painting these to use high quality painter’s tape because you don’t want the paint to leak through.

The end product was absolutely beautiful! I was actually surprised they turned out so well.

I whipped up some corn hole bags and these beauties were ready to be used. If you’re short on time you can also purchase weather resistant corn hole bags here.

I love the simple wood finish on these boards and they are quite worn in now. I hope you find this post useful and I hope it fuels your creativity to design your own.

What are some of your favorite games to play for summer get togethers?

Any big plans for the 4th of July weekend?

This is so cute. I’ve come into possession of an unpainted cornhole set and want this exact pattern for my 4th ofJuly party next week. Did you use spray paint or regular paint rolled/brushed on? Also, can you tell me the order you did things– blue stars section first then red stripes or vice versa? Thanks!

Hi Tricia! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂 I did the triangle up top first. I measured just enough down so the triangle has the hole at the bottom of the point. I placed the stenciled stars down inside the triangle. Then you can paint. I believe we used a roller. Make sure all the stars are fully stuck to the board to prevent paint from getting under. After the paint dried we removed all the tape and stencils and then painted the stripes. Again with the roller. This was one of my first blog posts so I think I will do an updated directions on how to create the design. I’ll get all the measurements, etc. So look for that soon. 🙂

Hey Christine, I am planning to do this same design & i’m seeing here you had planned to do updated directions on how to create it…did you ever get around to that? I am just looking to know what kind of paint you used, if you put a coat over the plain wood part, how many of the stencil pads you needed for the amount of stars made & what you used to hold them down to ensure no paint got on the wood? If you have a chance to give me answers to those I’d really appreciate it! Love this design!
